Another shuttle treasure to come to Space Center Houston for display

On May 2, Space Center Houston (SCH) was officially awarded a Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA) for permanent display. SCA NASA 905, one of two SCAs used for approach and landing tests early in the Space Shuttle Program and later to ferry operational orbiters, will carry on a special educational mission at Johnson Space Center’s official visitor center. On May 2, Johnson Space Center team members came together to listen and learn from two speakers, Colleen Barrett, president emeritus for Southwest Airlines, and Udaya Patnaik, founder of Jump Associates, who have both furthered the creative concepts behind Innovation 2013 within their respective companies. The Innovation 2013 kick-off event gave participants a chance to share their vision for JSC 2.0 and create, collaborate and connect with one another. Along with a suggestion box, there were white boards and post-it notes for people to scribble down their thoughts and ideas for making JSC an even better place to work. MORE...

Curiosity wins National Air and Space Museum Trophy

The team in charge of successfully landing NASA’s Mars rover Curiosity, managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, Calif., received the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s highest group honor at a dinner in Washington, D.C. on April 24. The 2013 Trophy for Current Achievement honors outstanding achievements in the fields of aerospace science and technology. MORE...

Following closely on the heels of awards given to Johnson Space Center on behalf of the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) Mid-Continent Region for Notable Technology Development and Outstanding Laboratory, former JSC Director Mike Coats was recognized by the FLC as the 2012 Laboratory Director of the Year.
